Portland Based Beloved Cycles To Be U.S. Built

Portland Oregon is a hotbed of frame builders and cycling companies in general. So it may not come as any big surprise that a new bicycle company is springing up there. This company is a bit different though in its vision and is affiliated with some interesting companies.

The MortonBeloved Cycles is first and foremost a company of passionate cyclists and believes in "everyday cycling". Cycling that becomes part of a lifestyle and not bourne out of racing or sport. (Not that there is anything wrong with that!) The company has a unique relationship with Cielo Cycles, also of Portland, Oregon. Chris DeStefano, of Cielo explains: "Cielo Cycles will be fabricating frames & forks for Beloved Cycles of Portland, Oregon."Why?" My answer is simple, we believe in each other."

Cielo Cycles is, of course, part of Chris King components and Beloved Cycles will not be owned, run, or otherwise be a part of King Cycle Group. They will be using some building space for bike builds, packing , but otherwise are a seperate entity. Basically, Beloved Cycles is using Cielo as its manufacturer and bikes are already going out the door. DeStefano explains further: "This isn't a "going-to-happen" business. This is happening now and, with the Cielo/King commitment, should really take off this season. This isn't a funky little bike operation drafting on the Portland vibe. This is an international business with a strong product line and a capable operational team. Beloved believes in everyday cycling. They believe in bikes. And making things in America. In creating things that reflect the way we live. They see the value in what we do at King and how that matters to consumers more and more each day."

With a line up that draws heavily from the French "constructuer" tradition, the bicycles will feature lugged, double butted steel construction and a subtle, classy look. Mostly centered on the utilitarian/urban cyclist, Beloved will also offer some "Seasonal Bikes" which will be a bit more adventure oriented and will be offered in very limited quantities in the fall. The orders will be taken until the limits for each model are reached, then construction will take place throughout the winter with a planned delivery of spring to customers.

Beloved sells bikes direct to the consumer, through licensing deals with Rapha and Jack Spade, (a New York City based fashion label), and through select retailers in the US.

Beloved will also produce a special edition bike for NAHBS. This bike was commissioned by Mellow Johnny'sand is currently under construction at Cielo Cycles.
