Ibis Cycles Announces The Mojo HD

When Ibis Cycles came "back from the dead" a few years back, it did so with the surprising Mojo carbon full suspension bike. I'll admit to being a bit shocked that Ibis didn't run with anything steel, hard tail, or titanium. Nope! Carbon fiber all the way. Now that the Mojo has been well recieved and Ibis is back in full force, they have embarked on a longer travel, heavier duty Mojo fittingly called the "Mojo HD". (Heavy Duty? High Definition? You choose!)

The first images show a white and black scheme, but a flat black and carbon frame will also be offered. While it bears a strong resmblance to the Mojo, it is in fact all new with no shared parts or molds.

Designed in conjunction with veteran gravity champ Brian Lopes, the Mojo HD reflects Brians influence in the head angle which was recommended by him to be 67 degrees. The frame sports 160mm of travel and is compatible with 180mm travel forks as well.

All this points to a bike that would lend itself to aggressive All Mountain type riding and that is exactly what the Mojo HD is good at, although Ibis is also touting the "snappy" uphill manners.

Here is a feature list straight from Ibis' Mojo HD site:

Mojo “HD” Specifications

  • 160mm of rear wheel travel.
  • DW Link Suspension.
  • 26″ Wheels.
  • Weight for the frame and shock, size large: 6.3 lbs, 2.86Kg.
  • 67 degree head angle with a 160mm fork.
  • Polycarbonate down tube cable guard.
  • Chain stay length: 17.125″.
  • 12 x 135mm Maxle rear axle.
  • Post mount magnesium left dropout, carbon right dropout.
  • Compatible with the new tapered steerer standard: 1 1/8th hidden upper, 1.5 traditional lower.
  • Compatible with both Chris King InSet and Cane Creek Frustum headsets.
  • If you want to run your current straight 1 1/8″ fork, we’ve got you covered too. We will have an adapter available, and you will be able to use a King headset top and bottom.
  • 2.35″-2.55″ rear tire depending on brand and height of cornering knobs.
  • Dual row angular contact bearings in the front of the lower link that have less play than standard sealed bearings. Preload adjustment is not necessary. Large 28mm x 15mm x 7mm radial bearings in the rear for stiffness and long wear.
  • The leverage ratio, like the Mojo and Mojo SL is designed for air shocks. The Mojo HD comes with a 8.5″ x 2.5″ Fox RP23. A DHX air will work on all but the small size. A coil shock is not offered because the linkage rates weren’t designed for it. We lowered the top tube to get slightly better standover than the regular small mojo while having a higher BB because of the longer travel (we managed to retain the DHX air compatibility in 3 of the 4 sizes).
  • The Bottom Bracket height is 13.8″-14″ depending on tires.
  • Front derailleur (if you use one) and adjustable seatpost housing (if you use one) run along the top tube.

Here are a few more images of the new rig..........

Ibis and Brian Lopes decided against a bottom bracket mounted chain guide that can rotate on heavy hits to the guide. They also could not fit ISCG type guides due to the limitations of the DW Link design, (That's right, not Hammerschmidt compatible). So they came up with a guide that is manufactured for Ibis by MRP and will mount directly to the lower link via a bolt to prevent rotation of the mount in hard hitting terrain.

The lower link, dubbed the "Lopes Link" will be available in black, blue, and red anodized choices, and the bash guard/chain guide will also be available from Ibis.

Another unique feature of this Mojo HD offering is the forged magnesium left drop out that incorporates the post mounts for the rear disc caliper. Ibis claims that the forged bit not only provides incredible strenght and stiffness over a die cast piece, but also saves weight over other options.

And the rear is a through axle design for 135mm OD spacing.

The price? $2399.00 each and will become available in limited quantities by March of this year with bigger production runs to follow. See the Mojo HD website for more details.
